![]() The **Second** Annual DelVal Street Survival Program - An Astounding Success By Mo Karamat Pictures from last year's event are available. Click here! Are you concerned about your teenager driving? Do you get nervous when your son/daughter takes the family car out? Do they know what Over steer and Under steer are? Do they know what to do when each of these conditions happen? What do you do if suddenly something falls in front of your car? How much braking does your car actually have? Have you ever felt ABS? Will I damage my car if I engage ABS too long? If your teenager does not know the answer to all of these questions, have no fear BMW CCA safety foundation has the answer STREET SURVIVAL! This program was formed in 2002 to take teenagers beyond "drivers Ed". Basic driving skills will not be taught in this program. This program will teach the students how to avoid potentially dangerous everyday situations. The program is broken down into 2 parts. First the students will have a classroom session where a qualified instructor will teach them the theory of car control, and what to do when these situations arise. After the classroom the students will participate in the practical part of the program, the in-car EXERCISES. Each student will work with a qualified instructor to put the theory that they were taught in the classroom to use. For example: getting the most out of their brakes (threshold braking), how much traction their car actually has (circular, elliptical and figure 8 skid pad), how the car handles when the weight of it is shifted from side to side (slalom), and many more fun and educational exercises. Later in the day, all of the exercises will be put together into a mini-auto cross course so that the students can practice all of the exercises one after another. One key piece of this program is that all of this work will be done in a completely safe environment. I have been working with the NJ BMWCCA on this program for the past few years, and we have always received a lot of good feedback from all of the participants.
Our next Street Survival school will be this fall. Stay tuned for exact dates. |
